The Border is Here!!!

For so long I have been thinking... the border is coming.. the border is coming...

While I worked feverishly on this cute outfit...
Kimber had special future plans including her daughter in some shots with this outfit she wore as a toddler.... so when piecing this outfit we tried to keep it true to the things Kimber liked about it most... quilting it was easy once I let off the importance of this outfit and went with the flow of the block....

Then it was time to unpin the bottom right corner of the quilt and applique on the label I had pinked the edges of ... for a raw edge applique adding more texture to the quilt once washed :)
This quilting plan did all come to pass.. not sure yet what (if anything) is going in the green border... I decided after repinning this area to work on the block it is partially attached to which brought me here...
This is another of Kaylie's artwork t-shirts we chose as a decorative block...
I started above with the fishy part.. then the background ideas just flowed as I did the wavy crazy crosshatching...

Finally time to rid these blocks of the blue ... spritzing and allowing it to soak out of the fabric and batting.. then dried it hanging in front of a fan....

Once it dried though check out this lower right section of the quilt...

Hope you are enjoying this as much as I am :)

But while the quilt was drying as it had gotten fairly saturated while soaking...
I pulled out my stencils... brought over my tunes... and found a fairly fresh blue spritz away marker that still worked :) lol

And marked the quilt with the stencils as generally shown above :)
Because I am using spritz away marker I am only marking 1 side at a time.. I mark the border from the corners to the center then figure out how they meet to look even.. this one met fine on BOTH borders so all is good :)

So now I have done some errands and a tad of housework.. I hope to spend the next couple days devoted to these borders and get them knocked out... then binding and washing and drying and GIFTING!!!  Kimber should be so excited!!!!

Thanks for sharing in my joy today... Have a great weekend!  Happy Friday <3

I am so Blessed!

Here is my view today....
My table runneth over with Lovely things!

You see yesterday I received a letter I had been waiting for from my DIL Keashia :)  I also got some thread for Kaydence's Take 2 Blankie I am piecing... for the embroidery additions...
Isn't this a precious picture of Kaydence.. and her mom's lovely handwriting to be transferred to the quilt block!!!!

I added contrast to this shot... so maybe you could make out the name in the center and birth statistics she wanted in the green sections...

So if you have been observant... I have shown you 2 pictures of Kaydence in the photos above...

I got 8 or 9 shots of this beautiful princess... she is a perfect mix of her mother and father too!  Very interesting to see them each so distinctly in these shots of her :)

So enough Grammy Gushing!!!  This princess needs her quilt! lol

To accomplish this I need to finish Kimber's quilt... and I am getting close to the last block and label addition!!!!

I started with this picture and tried to decide what would flow with this outfit... it is satiny fabric and needs stabilizing similar to the knit does...
So I have added quilting to the top and am working on the pants now...
I think the top turned out cool.. more pictures when the block and this bottom sashing are finished...

Then I will applique the label via machine... having to unpin that corner of the quilt to applique only to the top layer.. not the whole sandwich... so not looking forward to that! lol

I have pinked the edges of the label and will raw edge applique it then cut out the fabric behind.. I will add extra batting to make the label look like it has been stuffed like trapunto-esque! So I am happy about figuring all that out!

Well that covers my quilty and Grammy life for now.. Don't forget to check in on November 1 for a tutorial on the Anita's Arrowhead blocks :)  Until then or sooner!!!

Quilty Productivity :)

Happy Sunday ~ October 25th :)  Do you like my new blog header and background???  The weather here on Florida's east coast is perfect.. 70's and nice breeze most all day long!  So I have been feeling quite Quilty!! lol  I had a great Friday and Saturday in my quilty life.. thought I would share my hand quilting first..

This block turned out stellar I think....
This is a block of Kimber's Memory Quilt... my honey suggested making school lined paper as teh background stabilizing stitches on that black block.. it is made of glittery spandex leggings that were Kaylie's :)  now they hold Kaylie's initials in elementary school print!  Hope Kimber likes this way of stabilizing this block ;)

This is the upper right corner of the quilt..

I have finished all these blocks but the last 2 on the bottom right :)  So up next...

The sashing shown above must be stitched... in the ditch then a decorate swirl down the center...that has been marked.  THEN I can move down to that pink asian outfit.. more on that outfit later...

Linking this weekend hand quilting progress to Kathy's Quilts Slow Sunday Stitching HERE!!

So...

Having made that progress I decided to see how my center block figuring skills were...
I sewed this block together quite easily on Gloria.. my Singer 1956 301a :)

This block will be full of hand embroidery when finished... but I thought it being in full flimsy form would be best for the embroidery addition for hooping reasons.  So today I plan to sew this all together...
And once borders are added and quilting... this quick finished flimsy will be destined for my sweet granddaughter Kaydence.. it will replace the original quilt I made her that was lost to fire!

Here is a cute shot of Kaydence...
So my plan for this day... more hand quilting productivity and maybe a center sewn to celebrate :)

Have a blessed day and thanks for visiting!!!

Until my next post...

Weekend Forecast .. Beautiful and Quilty :)

Happy Friday all my bloggy friends!

I have had a very exciting and productive week.. let me share with you the center of my granddaughter Kaydence's new quilt!
This block is called Anita's Arrowhead... on November 1 I will publish a pictorial tutorial I have written for some fb friends... and will share with all via this blog.. so keep an eye out to see how fun and easy these really are to make!!!

I also got in the border fabric for this quilt and picked out an inner border color from my stash as well as binding fabric too!
The orange will make the perfect inner border fabric... to highlight all the orange in the owl border.. then the blue binding will be perfect to finish off this lovely Take 2 Blankie :)

I still have the center block to work on as you can see... the fabric just came in yesterday for that.  The fabric was a gift to the quilt from my best friend Connie :)   She also had donated the backing I will use on this quilt to me a while back so her generosity will be all over this quilt for sweet Kaydence >>>>
More to come on the center block in my next post... but I am also waiting on Kaydence's mom to send me her handwriting of Kaydence's name and birth statistics to add to the center block via hand embroidery :)  Yippee!

Hand quilting has brought me to a elementary school shirt and a part of some leggins we repurposed as background for this block...
Here you can check out my set up a bit... and see my initial stitching plan for this block... that changed a bit as needling through 4 layers of fabric and 1 layer of batting made for large stitches.. so there are now hearts on both sides of the years on each side of the bear in the center...
Here you can see that asterisk/star is changed to a heart :)  All things can be adjusted easily when hand sewing I think! lol

Then my honey thought the black background piece looked like a chalkboard and we should put some early elementary paper as it's quilted background... after pondering this a while I loved the idea... and added Kimber's daughters initials for just a sweet side effect to the lines... and to make up for the extra big stitches on the tshirt block itself! lol

So here is the beginning of that idea taking shape with needle and thread...

I can see my excitement build as I watch this block come to life... and as I see this quilt find it's way to being complete too!

I love the quilting table my honey made me.. it came with a shelf on the bottom for me to store things in use and to rest my feet when arthritis is making them ache..

But I needed a place to hold my little quilting notions.. thread, scissors, thimbles... etc...

So Connie gifted me this cute Longaberger basket from her collection of baskets...

Look at it.. even comes with a little leather loop to hang it by.. so my honey added a cup hook to the right front leg of my table...
It even has room for my water spritzer to remove all the blue lines this quilt requires :)  PERFECT!!!

So I hope your forecast looks beautiful and quilty too.. if not try to interject some of that if possible!  My darling daughter is also on the mend for any inquiring minds :)  Thanks for your prayers!

Until my next post...

A weekend of accomplishments :)

Since my last post I have been busy personally and quiltily! lol
First I want to wish you each a GREAT DAY!!!  I found this on a friend's facebook feed and knew you might want to see it too!  :)  Her nickname is Sunshine!  and you know I love the sunshine anyway ... LOL!

Quiltily...

On Kimber's Memory Quilt I am about to finish this blue tshirt block...
I am really jazzed about my progress on this in the midst of other things going on.. but for some reason since I added the piecing of the blocks to my plate of activities I seem to pick up my needle and thread more often when taking a break from that or house chores!  S o it is flying by :)  Yippee!

Here are the blocks I have started piecing on my Gloria .. my 301A sewing machine.. called Anita's Arrowhead...
You start simply enough with 2 contrasting 10" blocks... then you sew them together around the edges.. and cut them up... forgot to get a pic of the cutting part! lol

then press them open.. I press all to the dark..
then sew them in sections together... here is my first chaining run of stitching..
then sew those last 2 seams..nesting intersections as you go...
trim down.. my two 10" blocks gives me one 11 1/2" block to put in a project.. so 11" finished it will be :)

And here is a drawing of the quilt to be I am calling Take 2
This is more for my memory than for you all.. but it shows how I design a quilt.. as I rarely ever can follow a pattern for making a quilt to the letter! lol

The center block will be hand embroidered in some fun loud colored thread to yet be decided... her name, birth date and time, height and weight... her mom Keashia, may write this information so I can copy her handwriting as my font style for embroidering this info :)  I am very excited and just hope she can decide how to write it and send it to me ! lol

But I only have 2 or 3 of the blocks made.. so I better get to making more.. they are all cut out and ready to sew together!!!

My review on making this block is that directions could be a bit more clear that I found before knowing the name of the block.. a friend shared the recipe with me and it wasn't all great even though this is a good beginner block.. not so with the instructions I used! lol  I love making the block and the finish.. but Best Press is definitely necessary!!!

In other news...

I got an underhand thimble from my friend Kathy!!!!  She found it at a quilt shop while visiting Michigan and at my behest mailed it while on her vacation!!!  lol  I am so blessed to have such a special friend!!!!

So cool this lightweight and thin plastic thimble is... this is a large and initially I thought it too loose... but it fits perfect actually... and the material is still thin enough that I can vaguely feel the needle :)

 Just call me happy!!!

Also happy that my daughter...

who has been sick all week with fevers, abd pains, and worsening headaches... has a diagnosis after a trip to the doctor and finally to the emergency room they figured out she had a urinary tract infection!!!  And was it bad!!!! So antibiotics we got and exhausted we were.. but we got it figured out is the important part... it wasn't anything crazy... just a UTI!  Praise God for the little things for sure :)

Please keep happy thoughts headed her way as she recovers over the weekend :)

As for me... I am glad it is Sunday and time for some Slow Stitching so I am linking up with Kathy HERE!  You can check out the mini quilt she won in a raffle too!!!

So what are you working on this weekend??  I would love to hear about your accomplishments too!
Until my next update...

P > S>  New fabric is sitting in an unopened box just outside my sewing room... no movement is allowed to open this box of amazing and cool new fabrics for upcoming projects... until I finish Take 2 to a flimsy state... Border fabric has been ordered but all else was stash!  Yippee :)

Quilting ` Cheaper than therapy :)

A friend posted this by Fons and Porter on her facebook feed.. it rang true to me to share it with you and share what has been going on in my world...
so while I continue to work in Kimber's Memory Quilt.. the blue tshirt block... I have been pondering my next projects.. then everything just came together for me to start on Kaydence's quilt.  Kaydence is my 4 1/2 month old granddaughter who lives in Tennessee.. when she was about  2 weeks old the house she lived in with my son and his wife burned down... luckily no one was home  but they lost the quilt.. and I have been pondering a replacement.. after chatting with my dil Keashia at length a new quilt was born from my stash!!!
Here is a close up of the block I am doing... called Anita's Arrowhead most properly... this quilt will be called for now Kaydence's Baby Quilt ~ Take 2 :)  I may just say Take 2 for short though ! lol
The instructions I had to make this block were not really complete in nature... so I won't offer a link but if anyone is interested ... I COULD DO A DEMO of how quick and easy this block is to make so you can make your own!! :)

Let me know if you are interested in this option !!!

Linking this post a day late but should be okay to Sarah's WHOOPing Fun Friday Linky HERE

So in order to sew in my sewing room.. I needed to clean up a bit... here is what I walked into...
And here is how I rearranged things a bit... does take room away from my honey's side of the room but I needed to grow a bit in my space to make several upcoming tops :)
Since I took this shot I have moved the queen anne stool in the corner that my honey just recovered to the cutting area... it can float between there and Zena my 401a...

So Gloria is the star of my show right now, my 301a... she is my piecing machine stuck next to my design wall.. and there is a shared ironing station between the machines... :)   I love this arrangement and I love sitting in the bankers chair while sewing on Gloria!!!

Recently my son posted a pic someone snapped of he and Kaydence... so I took some pics from a recent photo shoot with my son and his step son CJ and..
 Made this!!!

I may print these out and send in Christmas cards this year.. if I send any! lol

For now I am going to make some more arrowhead blocks and work on the blue tshirt block hand quilting.. until I can post again..
